Why do toothaches (Molar abscess) always happen on the weekend! Here it is Friday and I can tell that I'm going to be in excruciating pain by Sunday. I really should call the dentist right now and see if I can get in. But you know me. Me and my Lazy Brain Disease! "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll do it later." And pretty soon it's 2:00 on a Friday and all the dentists have gone home in their Lexus' and Mercerdes'. And I'm facing three nights and two days in pain. Damn! Maybe if I call now the good Dr. will give me antibiotics and painkillers to last the weekend! Hmmm.

Listening to: Train, Michelle Branch, Pink, Uncle Cracker, Match Box 20, the usual Top 40 Pop stuff. Liz Phair, too. Heard Cindy Wilson of the B-52's do an acoustic version of 'Roam' this morning: excellent. Catch her if you get a chance, smokey huskey voice, very sexy and she can rock. She's at Eddie's Attic in Decatur this Saturday night.

I realized yesterday that I am part of an ongoing folk music revival which stretches back to The Weavers popular in the early fify's. The group included Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman, and Lee Hayes. They were indicted and blacklisted by the House Unamerican Activities Committee for their outspoken topical songs such as 'This Land is Your Land' and 'Good Night Irene!' They were on the cutting edge of the folk music swell and paved the way for the clean cut Kingston Trio, on to PP&M, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. In Britain, Eric Darling, Jackie McShea, Bert Jance, Fairport Convention, Pentangle even on to Led Zeplen were bearers of the folk music torch.
And here I am, part of a community of singers, players and songwriters who carry on the tradition of presenting simple straightforward messages in the international language of music. Messages like "The Earth is not a Trash Can," "Jesus Ain't a Banker," "Never Hurt a Fly," and "We Ain't Paid No Whiskey Tax Since Seventeen Ninety Two." Catch my drift, GW? I am a lucky man, humbled and honered to be part of this tradition. Sing Out!

Wearing: Black Slacks (remember the 50's Rock and Roll song with that title? It must have been '58 or '59). Also dark red cotton tee, hiking boots.

Listening to: Rain pelting down on the roof of our building (I'm on the top floor). Strong storms yesterday, then again last night and this morning, to continue all day. We had water coming through a window office on the 2nd floor during one of the yesterday's downpours. I have often coveted an office with a window. I would love to look out over the trees and hills around our building and watch the approaching weather. I had an office with a view once on the twelfth floor. My desk faced the big picture window. I stared out at the Atlanta skyline for hours. I was fired from that job.

One of my favorite songs: 'Calling All Angels'. I used to have a Guardian Angel. But she left. I don't know why. I miss her lots. She was so kind and sweet. Some times I didn't listen to her and I got into trouble. Maybe that's why she left, because I wouldn't listen. I promise I'd listen now if she came back.

I've seen the previews for several fall shows and a few look pretty good: 'Joan of Arcadia' looks cute; 'Cold Case Files' looks interesting; 'NCIS' looks like another of the nonending spin-offs on CSI but Mark Harmon can make it good. Don't know if I can take another 'Law and Order' spin-off. The Detective in 'Criminal Intent' is really nuts!
