Tulsa

Oil rich and Indian poor
Cowboys staggering out your door
Kansas head and a Texas floor
That's Tulsa

Heard you loud and clear
on the radio last year
coupla' states away
but your dues I couldn't pay
Tulsa

Sunburn, windburn, month old child
Coors tatooed on your thigh
Couldn't wait to say good bye
To Tulsa

Saw you sittin' near
at the rodeo last year
Had some things to say
but the words got in my way
Tulsa

Game goin' on behind the store
Sheriff knocking at the door
Couldn't take very much more
of Tulsa

Saw you slingin' beer
at the Okie's Bar last year
I was heading your way
when the band began to play
Tulsa

Nifty tune too. Soon as I find the nocount dirty scoundrel who ran off with my Taylor, I'll post a wave file.

Here's another:

Silverbird

Silverbird, a bar I use to go there
Sit alone by the window,
watch the snow fly
I didn't know a soul there
Except for Terry
and she planned to marry
A little Argenitino
One night
they had a fight
she moved out
I saw her about
at Silverbird.

(Chorus)
Silverbird, your frozen wings beating in the air
Silverbird, I spent a silent season there.

Usual Friday stuff. People laughing, goofing off, sneaking out early. I was paid at my library job today...plan to get an oil change, buy some socks, pay a coupl'a bills, maybe rent a DVD. Deb's working tonight. I talked to her earlier, she was all perky, we laughed and stuff. I told her by the time both of us get home, we're tired and grouchy and too tired to do anything but watch TV. That and deal with Sniff, the big red dog who is determined to destroy every piece of furniture we own, plus the carpet. This morning 'Niff was chewing on our toothpaste. Bad Dog! Deb reminded me that we'll be totally out of debt in one year and 10 months and we can quit these second jobs and enjoy our lives again. I can't wait.

Listening to: "Heaven" Christian crossover by Live. I like it. Also Kelly Clarkson's "Low" which sounds very much like a country/pop crossover.

Wearing: Sunshine yellow tee, grey cotton slacks

Feeling: Great...money burning a hole in my pocket! And "Oh, that magic feeling, no place to go!"

I just retraced my yesterday steps to this blog. Get ready to peak into an alternate universe! Once you've overstayed your visit with these cuties, just start clicking their links to pages like 3 Leg and then take on Rayne. The Blogouniverse is waiting.

Oooof!!! Aarg!! Carry On...
I fell out my bed last night! In the middle of a dream, having a conversation with someone, and then WHAM! I slam my head, a shoe stuck in the middle of my back, lying there in pain, wondering what tha' f**k happened! I then struggled to get up on the bed...and went back to sleep.

Wha' tha' f**k?!

I Blogged all day yesterday, 10:30 till 4:00! I wondered in and out of so many lives, leaving comments with some, others just shaking my head in amazement. One thread led me to an excellent commentary on the NYC rock scene with several audio links to groupes like Fever and Still. Very cool bands, pure rock. Ended up a very lost traveler in the blogosphere, not recognizing the URL from whence I came and finally had to bail out and return to My Reality without rmembering a single URL to get me back. "And I'll never have that Recipe again..."

Music, Music, Music

Looks like I'm getting Google hits from folks searching for any mention of people like Jason Muraz. BTW, did you know that "The Remedy" was written for a friend of his who had cancer and was undergoing chemo?! Listen to the song with that in mind and see if it makes the meaning a little clearer. I actually listen to a lot of Top 40 stuff. Train's Angel song, Charlotte's "Boys and Girls", 7 Nation Army (not one of my favorites) You know the usual. Bare Naked Lady's Chimpanzee is going to be a monster...I've heard it twice and I'm already almost tired of it. Kinda the way I felt about Achy Brakey Heart.

I used to listen to Classic Rock but got really tired of that. Then switched to an all 80's station and once again got tired of that. Listened to hip-hop for a while (my wife's car stereo is tuned to hiphop all the time). Then I went to a pop station. That's where I am now.

Country Rules the South
Lot's of people down here (Atlanta) listen to country. I can listen to maybe two songs on a country station (Tina McBride's "This One's for the Girls," followed by "I Love This Bar," (I love that song!) then it gets to be too much. I kind of like Dwight Yokum even though I have a problem understanding what he's saying, and also Lyle Lovette who goes beyond country. Back in the 80's I was a big Randy Travis fan, still like Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne, her music, what she has to say about growing up with Johnny and June and the Carters. Of course, Willie and Waylon. My dad was a Kitty Wells fan. On Saturday evenings we would watch Flatt and Scruggs and then the Porter Wagoner Show with Dolly. Mother would be ironing as I got ready for a Sat. night date. The late day summer time heat plus Momma's iron added up to sweat rolling down my face, tickling my nose. My father had rigged up a home made air conditioner consisting of a truck radiator in the window with a garden hose connected in and out. Cold Well water would run through, and a big electric fan in front would pull the air through. I don't remember if it actually worked or not, but he thought so, and that's what counted.

Every Sunday morning when I was a teen, I would watch the Lewis Family, bluegrass gospel group from Augusta. My love of bluegrass continues to this day with a special place in my heart for Appalachain gospel standards ("Life is like a Mountain Railroad," "We Need a Whole Lot More of Jesus and a Lot Less Rock n' Roll," " Precious Memories,"). My favorite contemporary bluegrass group is Blue Highway. Also Ricky Skaggs and Allison Kraus with Union Station. Allison Kraus , with a voice like an angel, sings "There's a Ghost in This House." I cry everytime I hear it.

Then there's Gillyan Welsh who is in a category all her own, acoustic roots music, I guess. There's Townes van Zandt (deceased, 2001), Lenoard Cohen, Joanie Baez, Dar Williams, John Hartford (deceased, 2003), Stephen Grossman, Dylan, Donovan, Rambling Jack Elliott, Shell Silverstein (I'm being eaten by a Boa Constrictor), CSN@Y and Simon&Garfunkel (pop folk), Ian Tyson and Gordon Lightfoot from Canada, Jacki McShea and Burt Jantz from Britain, and my friends Pam and Don McMahon, Anna diFranco, Eric von Schmidt, John Prine, and Utah Phillips, to name a few. There are countless others of the folk genre that have shaped my musical life.

The rock opera "Tommy" by the Who (first heard it while on LSD and thought they had written it
about me), also thought Nicholson's movie, "Five Easy Pieces" was about my life. I hallucinated myself into an episode of Star Trek not long after that. I couldn't believe that I was on TV!
