I'm retiring in three years. Not that far off, not too far that I decided to start planning (daydreaming). First I'm going to take a chunk out of my 401K, maybe 5K. And I'm going to travel cross country, heading for Yellowstone. Every time I see one of those Discovery Channel specials on its geomorphology and/or wildlife, I am transfixed. I've seen the Grand Canyon (doesn't look real), the painted dessert (purples, pinks and yellows), Carlsbad Caverns (bats), Petrified Forest (wierd), The Smokies (smokey) and a bunch of other places/things. But not Yellowstone. I guess Autumn would be the prettiest time. Autumn is my favorite time of year anyway (Frank singing "...I'm in the Autumn of my years"). The Aspen trees all silver and gold. I remember seeing that when I lived in Flagstaff....with Irene Van Patten...God, I miss her. She had this cute curly perm and a stick like figure, tall and thin. And so happy. Until Autumn came. It wasn't either of our faults. We just didn't know what to do. We both screwed it up. If you're out there, Honey, I'm so sorry...
OK, TWC was the big winner, right on the money for what turned out to be a pretty nasty ice storm. Locally, WSB's coverage was all-day-all-the-time. WAGA (Fox) was the big loser, with Ken Cooke poopooing the original forcast, then down playing the event until it was obvious that it was going to be humdinger! 11 Alive (WXIA-Gannett) hedged their bets and just rolled with the radar. WSB was literally foaming at the mouth in search of power outages! God forbid that the city would dodge the power bullet and not give Carol Sbarge something to talk about.
All in all it was a fun weekend, albiet a little on the cabin fever side. Me and the wife, soon to be X's but not at all estranged, kept each other company along with the dog and cat. Here are some Ice Storm Pix:
