Looks like dubya's Market bump is over. The DOW is in free fall this morning. I saw it tumble 10 points in a matter of seconds. This on news of the Dollar's fall against the Euro. This of course is pushed by record deficits and the Fed's leak that rates will soon be heading up. The war isn't going as planned, oil is pushing toward $55 and winter's on it's way. Iran is tooling up with nukes, the borders are still as porous as a coffee filter and there is a bill beginning in the Congress to privatize Social Security. Personally, my wife and I are filing for bankrupcy and divorce in that order. My alma mater, U of South Carolina brought shame on a proud tradition of cultural civility by brawling on national TV after a football game.
Other than that, things are ok.
The wife and I went gambling in Alabama Saturday night, had a great time, didn't spend too much money ($300). We were there all night which is our usual trip. Cruised back home at 8:00AM. I've changed my favorite gambling destination from Harrah's Cherokee Casino to the Victoryland Center in Shorter, AL (just this side of Montgomery). It's a little closer and the selection is much better. The atmosphere is better, the winnings are more frequent, the staff is friendleir.
The only thing Cherokee has going for it is the location, situated next to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. I always enjoyed the drive to and from through the Blue Ridge. The Alabama trip is devoid of scenery, just the plains of Auburn. But I've come to prefer that destination for obvious reasons.
My friend Dale is visiting for a few days, flying in from California on his way to his farm in South Carolina. We've had a fun time together. Dale is my closest friend, no secrets between us, no subject taboo. We talk a lot about our youth, the women we chased, the women we lost and the resulting heartbreak all around.
The wife is in New York with our son, will return Saturday. Dale leaves today so that means just me and the Sniff...alone.
