Fridays in most offices are fun times, some people leave early, the ones that are left are visiting friend's cubes, conversations break out in hallways, not work related. Lunch hours stretch longer than an hour and sometimes liquor is involved. Some workers slip out for shopping (We're 5 minutes away from Lenox), never to return. By 4:00, only the hardcore remain and even they are on the phone with they're sweeties, planning the evening. By 5:00 the place is deserted. Except for those of us who are so busy blogging that we've forgotten the time!

Yeah, it's Friday again, time for the infamous Five:

1. How much time do you spend online each day? 4-5 hours

2. What is your browser homepage set to? Yahoo!

3. Do you use any instant messaging programs? If so, which one(s)? I Don't do IM any more , but when I did, it was the old AOL version, before they made it unavailable to all but AOL members.

4. Where was your first webpage located? My first one is this one!

5. How long have you had your current website? Almost exactly one year!

Still nothing from Chicago...Oh well, I tried. The past two days have been a nightmare. Left work early on Wednesday, but my car wouldn't start! Dead Battery. Somebody gave my a jump start so I drove home, went to the afore mentioned convenience store, and lost all my money. Went to leave the store and car wouldn't start again! Got a jump and drove home. Wife came home at 6:30, we were going to drive to AutoZone and buy an new battery. Only I couldn't find my car key! We looked everywhere, tore the house up, looked in and under the sofa, everywhere, no key. Meantime I was having an emotional break down over this cascading of negativity. Took two lorazapam, fell asleep on the sofa where I slept till dawn. Deb got up, the search for the key continued...I found the key in my pocket! The insanity continues: I had to stay at home for the Termite guy to do his inspection. I told Deb that I would get a jump from him. He came on time, gave me a jump, then left. I got all ready for work, car running, then on the way out of the driveway the car stalls! Damn! Won't start again!
I go into the house and piss the day away watching bad daytime TV. Finally. 7:00, Deb comes home, jumps me off, I go to AutoZone, they install a new battery, the fiasco ends!

Some days you just hit it lucky. I stumbled accross this insanity while randomly blogging this AM. Thanks to Page for this moment of hilarity.

Wearing: Bottle green long sleeve buttondown, khaki slacks.

Listening to: The knock-knock of the IRS at my door! (August 15th, Tax day for all us slackers)

Haven't heard from the Chicago job-guy, so I'm kind of disheartened about that. But oh well, If I'm stuck here doing nothing for the rest of my working days, at least the pay is decent and I call my own shots.

Got to run off to my favorite convenience store now and do some illegal gambling. Blog at you later

Yesterday I applied for a position in Chicago. If hired I will be professionally challanged for the first time in many years. This is big time stuff: Consulting for a national company, Corporate Culture, suit and tie, the works. I am cofident that I can perform well at the job, I mean I know Records Management, I've been in the profession for 25 yrs. It's all the other stuff that has me concerned: For example, today I am Wearing: Yellow cotton tee, faded black cotton slacks and hiking boots. That will not fly in Chi-town. And I'm sure I'll be downtown, which will be another change for me. Deb is going to stay in Atlanta for a few months, see how things work out, then join me. I hope I get the job. It will start a whole new chapter for us.

Tirade: 600 Billion to rebuild Iraq. Doesn't that work out to about a couple of thousand dollars for each person in America? Hmm, that sure could help the plight of the homeless, most of whom are mentally ill, turned out into the streets after Reagan closed down all of the state run mental health facilities in the country. Oh, you didn't know that? Yeah, we used to not have a homeless problem. Damn, I hate to get political on my blog, but that has always burned my ass! And now we have a whole new generation of psychotics, barely getting by on the mercy of our kindness. Of course the homeless advocates would raise an unparalleled protest if you tried to somehow institutionalize these poor, sick people, even if there were institutions to care for them. I'm sorry but I'm really pissed about this.
I volunteered to help in one of those asylums many years ago. It changed my life. I learned that mental illness truely was a disease. You couldn't simply "suck it up" or "get your shit together." People who take this approach make me sick.
