All wars suck, some more than others. This war REALLY sucks.

Movies:I love 'em! Now that I have NetFlix, I get my fill. Talking to my friend Dale about some of his favorites set me adrift in memories of some excellent screen experiences. One of my all time favorites, and one that I still haven't totally figured out is Gene Hackman in The Conversation. I found the biggest problem with the movie was that I couldn't quite hear it. Kind of ironic, huh. Another one is Michael Antonione's Blowup (based upon a short story "Las Babas del Diablo") where a photographer notices that in one of his scenes, there appears to be a figure hidden in the shaddows. After a number of enlargements he's convinced that he has captured a murder with his camera. Captures the essece of the 'Swinging 60s' in London. Being a young man in my early 20's my heart raced at the female frontal nudity and portrayal of casual sex. A great companion movie to Blow UP is Blow Out, directed by Brian DePalma. This one stars a young John Travolta and one my favorite 80s female leads, Nancy Allen. This plot involved a movie sound technician who records a murder of a political figure on tape while out one night recording sound bites of crickets at night. The movie turns on the fact that he determines the sound he hears right before the blow out is a gunshot causing the wreck which kills the candidate. As in Antonionie's film, no one believes the technician and he himself wonders if it really happened at all.
Lawrence of Arabia used to be one of my all time favorites but I just can't watch it again...seen it too many times. The same goes for Dr. Zavago. I recently saw another on my favorites on TV, 3 Days of the Condor and loved it all over again, though I've seen it at least 10 times!
